Default Protein Powders

I eat a healthy breakfast before working out, but would like to have a protein-based smoothie immediately afterwards (am at a good weight, so don't need to worry about calories). When I went to the store to buy some protein powder, there were many choices. I ended up with a soy-based, vanilla-flavored one. It's "okay", but I have to force myself to drink it because the "chalky" taste is overwhelming (my other ingredients are: frozen berries, orange juice, and vanilla soy milk).
Questions:
1) I noted that some of the powders were soy-protein, others were pea-protein or whey-protein. We use 50% soy, 50% daity for our milks. Would I be better off with a non-soy-based?
2) does anyone have a particular brand of protein powder that tastes good?
