Default Pain when taking vitamins - anyone else experience this?

I've tried taking a daily multivitamin for general health. The problem is, when I take multivitamins, I experience pain in what I'm guessing is my esophagus about 10--20 minutes after taking the vitamin. It's a pain that goes up the center of my chest and lasts for about 10-15 minutes. Not a burning pain, just a steady pain that's very uncomfortable. It almost feels like the pain you get when you swallow too large a bite of food. I've taken multis before and not had this problem, it's only been within the past year that I've experienced this. I don't know if it was brand related or what!

I was taking the multi with either my breakfast or lunch, and drinking a glass of water (8-12oz) with the vitamin, so taking on a full stomach doesn't alleviate the problem. I was taking an over the counter, popular women's vitamin for someone of my age (38 years old).

Needless to say, I've stopped taking multis. I take Calcium with Vitamin D and Vitamin C now, to make sure I'm getting something, but I'd really like to take a full spectrum multi. Any comments, tips or experience with this would be appreciated!!! I have my annual check up tomorrow with my OB/GYN and plan on discussing this with her as well.
