Default Stress relaxation techniques

One of the best ways to ensure that you can get rid of stress is to try and concentrate on something else. Relaxation is well known for its rejuvenating properties. Merely lying down on the bed after a stressful day at work may not give you the best of results. There are various methods of relaxation that allow you to unwind and give a much needed break to the tensed nerves.

The first of these methods is aromatherapy. Finding a lot of favor in the recent past, this method of relaxation involves taking in various natural aromas like lavender, germanium, sandalwood, chamomile, jojoba and many others. These aromas are extracted from plants and flowers and they help in relaxation, healing and even sleep. One can use scented candles, perfumes, massage oils and incense as a delivery mechanism.

The use of these aromas has been tested to actuate the receptors in the olfactory system that sends signals of emotions and memories to the relevant part f the brain. Due to this calming hormones are released causing alpha and theta brain waves.

The other relaxation therapy that is most common and the most accessible to all of us is music therapy. We have all experienced the calming effect a certain kind of music can have on us. The flowing soft sounds envelop us and make us feel as if we are flying with the wind or submerged in the depths of engulfing water. It may be helpful to use headphones, especially if there is noise outside since blocking all noise and submerging yourself in the rhythm and pace of the music is what will make you forget all your worries and tensions and leave you rejuvenated.

Soothing instrumental music has known to affect the right hemisphere of the brain that is the seat of emotion. You will notice that after a few minutes your blood pressure reduces, your breathing slows down and you can actually feel your muscles relaxing.

The most difficult, but perhaps the most effective method of relaxation is meditating. This involves concentrating hard on one object or word and obviating all external stimuli from your mind. This can be achieved by repeating a phrase or a mantra continuously. You could also concentrate of a picture that you may have in mind. The eyes need to be closed to avoid distractions and you need to focus on the chosen object or mantra in your mind, trying to remove all thought from the mind.

Practice sessions should range from ten to thirty minutes twice every day. You will realize that after meditating you feel energetic and ready to go even after a hard, stressful and boring day at work.
