TAMPA - A proposed football doubleheader to open the 2007 Hillsborough County football season at Raymond James Stadium likely will not happen, Hillsborough coach Earl Garcia said.
The Aug. 31 doubleheader would have featured Hillsborough vs. Jefferson and Armwood vs. Plant. Garcia said he and Jefferson coach Mike Fenton and Plant’s Robert Weiner were in favor of moving forward with the plan. But Armwood coach Sean Callahan said the overwhelming sentiment among his staff and players was to keep its home date with the Panthers at Lyle Flagg Stadium.
“This wasn’t just my decision,” Callahan said. “The vast majority of my coaches and kids want to keep that game at our field.”
