Even though it doesn't appear as though the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy is reducing the number of off field incidents, Goodell seems to be handing out freebies to players.
For instance, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello says rookie OT Gosder Cherilus wont be disciplined for his role in a bar fight because it happened before he was drafted (even though the criminal punishment was handed out after the draft)
(Didn't I hear previously that teams would be held responsible for drafting players of iffy character?)
How about Marshawn Lynch. He not only commits hit and run but then obstructs justice by refusing to own up to the crime and greatly embarrassed the Bills. Goodell didn't punish him.
So it seems to be that if the player and his lawyer can convince the law to merely give a slap on the wrist, the league will pay attention to the outcome rather than the details underlying the story.
So the perception is that the NFL will only punish players who have multiple brushes with the law?
