Boycott was said to have been lined up to work with Lancashire all-rounder Andrew Flintoff, who has suffered two successive championship ducks, to help with his batting form as he attempts to force his way back into the England squad.
Flintoff has spoken to Boycott on an unofficial basis in the past, most notably in South Africa three years ago.
The ECB have also confirmed that Hugh Morris, the managing director of England cricket, is yet to make any appointments to supplement the current coaching set-up headed by coach Peter Moores.
