The only reason why pharamaceuticals are common, is because pharmaceutical companies created the fear.
In the 1960's only 1% of the entire American population was diagnosed as'clinically depressed'. My guess is that the only way to get this diagnosis back then was to attempt suicide, and be put into an asylum.
Nowadays it is all different.
Pharmaceutical companies started labelling people.
shy people were now called socially anxious
Mood swings were now called Bi Polar
Depression came be diagnosed at very young ages now, and very old ages.
If everyone read about what the criteria for the disorder they created, almost everyone would have altest one.
Quiet...Shy... Socially Anxiety, underlying depression.
likes everyone very clean..... now called obsessive compulsive
Attention Deficit Disorder was always around, but back then it was called Minimal Brain Disfunction.
Of course, if a doctor told someone that they had minimal brain dysfunction, they would probably laugh ( after all they got 90% in school.... but attention deficit , seems so much nicer... and has a much broader scope.
the people that hate math, arent paying attention because they hate math, but it looks ADD to the teacher.
the person that is always loud , is frowned apon,
