Default Gold vs. Silver?

Im considering diversifying my investments into physical metals. Gold seems to be the language that everyone is speaking at the moment, but what about silver?

Over the last year, silver has doubled in value, while gold has done the same. Are the two metals directly comparable in terms of their fundamentals, or are there different factors working in both metals?

Personally, there is something about silver that I find appealing. Perhaps its just that I have a reasonable chance of owning more of it than I can carry while thats probably not going to happen with gold

Thoughts?
