Default Calorie Counting - Do you really need it?

Various personal trainers have told me that you dont NEED to calorie count to lose weight. And sometimes should only be implemented if your not losing weight.

What do you all think?

I think its a good idea to look at calories of the foods you eat, to get an idea of what portions you eat. But I dont think obsessing over every little calorie/fat/carb/protein/sodium grams is really worth it.

What do you all think is the most EFFECTIVE method of weight loss (in terms of losing kg)
