Default depression

I was recently diagnosed with clinical depression, from which I have been suffering for the past eight months or so. I went to both a psychologist and a psychiatrist and they recommended cognitive behavioral therapy and medication. The therapy sounds great, but I am a little leery of taking meds. Basically, I think certain issues in my life and behaviors (not eating healthy, not getting exercise, procrastinating everything etc.) have led to my depression. I am afraid that if I take medication I will start feeling better and not address the underlying causes of my illness. On the other hand, I know that medication works much faster than therapy in curing depression and I am really anxious to get my life back.
