Default Insulin Resistance

I had blood work done last month. The nurse called back at the beginning of this month and told me that my glucose level was 156 and my insulin level was 160. I was told to call back the next day to schedule a consultation. I called early the next morning and was told that the doctor would not be able to talk to me about the results until November 27th. They transferred me back to the nurse and she told me the tests had labeled me as insulin resistance.
I have done research on my own but I am still not sure what my diet should be like. I guess my biggest fear (besides becoming diabetic) is having to totally give up sweets and breads.
I am looking for people who are insulin resistance to tell me what their diets are like.
