Default dangerously high bs

just wanted advice really, i am type 1 diabetic and on both insulin and metformin,id not felt myself yesterday and had a poor appetite but my blood sugar just kept going up and up during the course of the day, it actually scared me at 1 point when it reached 26.5 (that was the highest), i couldnt get enough drink down me i was so dry and was on the loo ev 20 mins, also my eyes were as if i had a coating over them and was finding it hard to focus on things, my partner kept telling me to ring nhs direct but i wouldnt let him and i waited till 1am untill they came down to 20.9 untill i went to sleep,got up this morning and they are still quite high 16.4.did i do the right thing or should i still contact someone???? any advice really appreciated.
