Default Is He Being Manipulative

I desperately need advice please!!!
I'll admitt that I was wrong for going through my boyfriends phone but I found a girl's number that he calls often times before he calls me. So I called her and sure enough he was messing around with her. I didn't want to talk to him after that but after he called a million times I answered his called and he admittedly went off on me for going through his phone. He said I was disrepectful and violated his privacy. He then began to cry and said that he couldn't believe I would do that to him when he had been here for me and that I was delusional to ever think that we were exclusive. I apologized and began to feel bad and cried myself because I felt like I had made a mistake he told me the only way I could prove I was sorry was to call the girl back and apologize for lying to her about him being my man.

He clearly stated on several occassions that we were in a relationship so I'm not understanding. When I refused to call the girl, he told me to have a nice life. I know I violated his trust but is just being manipulative to regain the upperhand in the situation because he got caught or how should I handle this. I wasn't ready to break up with him, but wonder if he was really breaking up with me or just trying to make me feel quilty for the whole thing.
