Being a teenager I always get the older generations saying that young love is always the worst in terms of emotional pain... Does anyone agree?

Personally I don't agree.

Well, perhaps they mean "first love", because that pain is the one you always remember which makes perfect sense.

Being "Middle Aged" I miss the passion and pain of "young love". There was something very special about the excitement, hurt, ecstasy, of love.

*Young love is exuberant, passionate, and consuming. It will drag you out of bed at 6am when you've only got 4 hours sleep. It will make whatever you listen to on the radio your favorite music for the rest of your life. Your joy is weightless, unchecked by injuries of experience or failure.

*Young heartbreak is devastating. The pain in your chest is real and palpable. More people commit suicide during their teens than any other age. Unable to feel reciprocated love, some people become obsessed.

But for those who do soldier on, the pain lessens. You learn from your trials and future heartbreak doesn't hurt as much. But so too is the joy of love never going to be as potent. Once you realize this, your childhood dies. You grow-up, you learn about the world, you experience new people. When you're 30 you watch the old home movies and ask yourself "What was wrong with me?", you meet your old flame in the grocery store and realize the person you fell in love with isn't the same anymore either.

C'est la vie.

It's worse in the sense that it'll be your first time to experience the kind of pain a broken heart will cause. But as you get to experience more heartache in your future relationship, it'll be worse, complicated and painful. Don't worry though, you'll get through it because experience will make you stronger.

It isn't always that way. Some do find that joy and exhuberance again, often much later in life.
