Both have it's strength in terms of loosing weight. it just depends on how extensive you use them. If your goal is to really loose weigh then you must do each type more often and in increasing number of times. If you just want to stay fit or maintain your weight then both can also be of help. Of course it can be more lighter and lesser routine as compared to when you have to loose a lot of pounds.

There are 3 components to weight loss and they are weight lifting, cardio, and healthy eating. Weight lifting builds and maintains muscle. Now building and maintaining muscle is important because it increases your basal metabolism which means you burn more calories even when you are resting. Cardiovascular activities when done consistently say for 30 minutes or more in the aerobic zone are very effective in burning body fat. Healthy eating is important because it is impossible to do enough exercise to offset a poor diet.

Balance diet is the key to every weight loosing goals. Work out will be unimportant if you do not know how to properly discipline yourself when it come to food. You don't have to starve yourself. Eating right is the proper term.
