* Avoid chemical treatments, using soaps or detergents in the affected area. They may cause drying and induce the condition to flare up.
* Avoid exposure to extreme weather.
* Shampoo: Keeping the scalp clean is important and for this using a shampoo regularly can help. Shampoos containing selenium sulfide, ketoconazole, tar, zinc or pyrithione are available without doctor's prescription. Before using these medicated shampoos you should read the instructions carefully.

Please tell your experience on this.
There is a peparation here in UK called *cocois* its a mixture of tar and coconut oil . Its fantastic for the scalp , really does keep it clean and healthy . Yes its a little messy and greasy but you need only leave this on for a few hours or so it will lift any fakes off and prevent them coming back if used now and again . However you must stay out of thesunshine and advisable the day or so after becouse these preps tar ect will make the skin photo sensitive UV light . Its worth reading the instuctions carefully . I apply pure coconut il or sometimes olive oil heated a little to the scalp . It does keep the hair in lovely condition and scalp too . If this dandruff becomes out of control do visit the doctor who will advise you if you are suffering from scalp psoriasis or another condition such as sebb dermatitis . He may then arrange for you to see a dermatologist, if psoriasis is confirmed and it is on any other part of the body ...but if its just the scalp it can be easily controlled .
