Default Decrease in Cardio + Increase in Weights

I have a question I was hoping to get answered. Over the past 3 years I have lost 150 lbs using some home workout tapes (combo of cardion and resistance training). Now that I am going into my 30s, I realize I am going to have to put on more muscle to keep this weight off. Therefore, I bought a MH workout book and have been following a very rigorous strength training routine at the gym + bumped my calories up from 2K to 3K with most of the excess being protein.I have an extremely clean diet. I also completely cut out cardio work outs. I have been following this routine for about 9 weeks.

I am excited because I am finally putting on muscle, but my waist size is also incrasing. It feels like muscles in my core are pushing the excess fat I have left on my body out. I guess I am now used to feeling lean so I am kind of alarmed about this increase in waist size -- is thsi a normal stage to go through on the way to getting more definition? Will the muscle eventually burn the rest of this fat? thanks
